Rowland Recruitment is supporting a forward thinking, high performing healthcare organisation that is looking for an inclusive, innovative and collaborative finance leader to help drive the organisation through its next phase of strategic and operational development.
As Head of Finance, you will lead a small but highly capable finance team and act as a trusted adviser to the Senior Leadership Team and the Board.
You will oversee the full financial cycle, including forecasting, financial planning, budgeting, reporting, reserves management and cost‑improvement delivery. You will also shape financial strategy, ensure strong governance, and influence key stakeholders across both finance and non-finance functions.
This is a pivotal leadership role requiring exceptional analytical ability, relationship building skills and the confidence to influence senior decision making.
Key Requirements:
Financial Leadership & Performance:
- Lead high quality financial planning, analysis and reporting across all service areas.
- Deliver timely and accurate management accounts, forecasts and cashflow reporting.
- Identify risks, emerging trends and efficiency opportunities and escalate appropriately.
- Develop service line budgets, contribute to business cases and present financial updates at Board meetings.
- Strengthen financial systems, support automation and enhance reporting frameworks.
- Provide financial training and guidance to non-finance managers and budget holders.
Financial Planning & Business Strategy:
- Lead the annual financial planning and budget‑setting process.
- Support development of long‑term financial models (I&E, balance sheet, capital, cash flow, risk).
- Ensure compliance with Standing Financial Instructions and wider regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to internal/external audits and implement improvement actions.
- Provide expert financial advice on cost‑improvement, efficiency and operational decision making.
- Analyse complex financial issues involving multiple funding streams and competing priorities.
Leadership & Organisational Contribution:
- Lead and develop the finance team, fostering continuous improvement and high performance.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including partner organisations and wider system bodies.
- Represent the organisation at system level financial and planning forums.
- Uphold organisational values, demonstrate professional integrity and ensure confidentiality.
Ideal Candidate :
- Fully qualified accountant: ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAS, or CIA
- Significant post qualification financial leadership experience.
- Experience operating at a senior strategic finance level within a complex organisation.
- Strong financial modelling, forecasting and systems expertise.
- Proven experience delivering board level financial information and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Excellent IT skills, including advanced Excel and use of general ledger/financial systems.
- Experience managing staff and delivering improvements to financial processes.
- Knowledge of NHS finance, PCN structures or healthcare funding models is desired.
- Experience of large scale organisational transformation or service redesign.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to present complex financial information clearly to non‑finance colleagues.
- Strong analytical and problem solving capability.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing deadlines and maintain high standards.
