Rowland Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a highly respected and long established business in Tonbridge who are seeking an experienced Senior Accounts and Payroll Professional to work closely with their Finance Director. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership, leading day to day finance operations and ensuring smooth, compliant and well controlled financial processes.
You will oversee core accounting, payroll and VAT while supervising transactional activity and ensuring the finance function runs efficiently. This is a hands on, varied role where your insight and experience will be valued and where you will play a key part in supporting the continued success of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Supervision:
- Oversee daily transactional accounting in Sage
- Supervise AP, AR and bookkeeping activity, ensuring accuracy and timely completion
- Complete bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations and control account reviews
- Produce monthly management accounts
- Post journals, accruals and prepayments
- Maintain accurate cashflow reporting
- Support the FD with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
Payroll Oversight:
- Manage and oversee end to end payroll processing
- Liaise with an external provider or internal payroll systems
- Ensure accurate PAYE, NI and statutory submissions
- Maintain strong compliance across all HMRC requirements
- Act as main point of contact for payroll queries
VAT and Compliance:
- Prepare and submit VAT returns
- Maintain audit ready financial records
- Ensure the business remains compliant with financial regulations and best practice
Support to the Finance Director:
- Provide financial reports, summaries and insights for management meetings
- Assist with strategic planning, reviews and financial decision making
- Identify areas for process improvement and recommend changes
- Act as a key contact across the business for finance matters
General Finance and Office Support:
- Maintain organised financial documentation
- Work collaboratively with the wider office team
- Support year end accounts preparation and liaison with external accountants
Ideal Candidate:
You will thrive in this position if you are:
- An experienced finance professional or supervisor (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, QBE or Part Qual)
- Confident using Sage daily
- Experienced in both accounts and payroll
- Strong in Excel, including pivot tables and lookups
- Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail
- Comfortable taking ownership of the accounts function and supporting the FD
- A proactive problem solver with a supportive, team focused approach
